North East Universities Cultural Development Project

In support of the Arts Council England strategy for higher education, unis4ne (in partnership with the Arts Council England North East) is piloting a project to facilitate the development of partnerships between the North East universities, the Arts Council and the wider regional arts community.

The project will involve supporting the delivery of a range of collaborative arts activities which will contribute to the continued development of the creative economy in the North East.  These will be identified and supported by both organisations and are likely to include:

• Developing the North East as a centre of cultural excellence through its universities
• Supporting the needs of the cultural sector in the region
• Attracting students and graduates to the arts in the region including increasing and diversifying participation in arts education
• Retaining students who have studied creative disciplines
• Higher level skills / cultural workforce development
• Working with the universities to map and promote their cultural expertise, in a commercial context
• Developing the cultural experience of students of all academic disciplines in the region
• Generally facilitating greater collaboration within the cultural sector
• Research and knowledge transfer with the cultural sector
• Facilitating university involvement in community cultural out-reach
• University supported cultural enterprise and innovation
